Open work permit

Home Open work permit

A Canadian open work visa allows its holder to work for any employer in the country, whether they are based in Canada or outside. The applicant’s freedom of movement and field of expertise may be constrained by the terms of some open work permits.

An open work permit application can be submitted at a Canadian port of entry, from outside Canada, or within Canada. There are location-specific requirements that must be met in order to qualify for a work visa –

  • After the permit’s expiration, you must go back home,
  • You’ll need to prove that you’re financially stable
  • Medically stable and pass a medical exam
  • Not intend to work for an unrecognized employer
  • Have health insurance
  • Provide other documents to the visa officer, if required.

A person who is already in Canada on a valid study or work permit may also apply for an open work permit.
